Taiga Animals
You will only see a few animals living in the taiga because its very cold and most animals migrate to warmer climates.
Some taiga animals have thick coats that protect them from the cold.
Some taiga animals have structural adaptations that help them survive.
Having big paws help distribute their weight, and help it move in the snow.
Taiga Plants
Evergreen trees in the taiga keep their leaves, because their cone shape helps prevent damage.
Branches droop downward, which helps shed excess snow.
The forest of the taiga might be so dense that little sunlight penetrates the trees to reach the forest floor.
Waxying coatings on needles prevent evaporation.
Taiga Climate
The average temperature per year is 32°F (0°C)
The taiga can be as low as -76°F (60°C).
In the summer the temperature can reach as high as 104°F (40°C).
The soil of the taiga thaws completley during the summer making it possible for trees to grow.
